Incumbent Worker Training
- Designed to ensure that employees are able to gain the skills necessary to retain employment and advance within a company or to provide the skills necessary to avert a layoff, ideally allowing the company to hire job seeker to backfill the incumbent worker’s position
- Incumbent worker training aims to improve the skills and competitiveness of the participant and the competitiveness of the employer(s)

Apprenticeships
Registered Apprenticeship Programs are on employer-driven, “Earn While You Learn,” model that combines on-the-job-training/on the job learning with job-related instruction in curricula tied to the attainment of industry-recognized skills standards.
- VCW funds may be used to support placing participants in the classroom training
- VCW funds can support a variety of supportive services for WIOA participants who are apprentices, including books, supplies, child care, transportation, tools and uniforms.
On The Job Training
- Enables potential new employees to gain new skills or knowledge essential to full and adequate performance on the job
- Employers are reimbursed based on size for the participant’s wages to offset the cost of training and additional supervision
- Employers agree to hire, train and retain the individual upon successful completion of the training program
Work Experience
- Planned, structured learning experience in the public, private or nonprofit sector
- Limited time period period and may be paid or unpaid
- Paid work experience covered 100% by Vermilon County Works
- No requirement to hire the participant upon completion
Transitional Employment
- Work experience designed specifically for individuals with barriers to employment who experience chronic unemployment or who have consistent work histories
- Limited time period and may be paid or unpaid
- Paid work experience is covered 100% by Vermilon County Works
- No requirement to hire the participant upon completion
Customized Training
- Services include the full range of occupational skills training, adult education and literacy services and customized training
- Designed to utilize approved programs provided by eligible providers
- Designed to address gaps identified by an employer or group of employers
- Requires a commitment by the employeeyer(s) to employ all of the individual upon successful completion
- Employer must pay for a significant share of the coast of the training with the remaining balance being covered by Vermilon County Works
